BI‑CONTEMP ART – Bilateral Initiative in Contemporary Art

Iași (Romania) – Oslo (Norway) | 6 months (01.09.2024–28.02.2025)
The project supports contemporary art through Romanian–Norwegian collaboration, combining a new co‑produced artistic work, a contemporary art festival in Iași and an exchange event in Norway to build long‑term cultural ties.

Overall objective

To support contemporary art over 6 months in Romania and Norway, through cultural exchanges, interdisciplinary artistic events and strengthened bilateral cooperation, creating the basis for lasting strategic collaboration.

Key activities

• A1 – Management of the bilateral initiative: overall coordination, monitoring and reporting, including opening and closing conferences.
• A2 – Contemporary art initiatives & promotion of cultural diversity:
◦ RoNo Art Connect Festival in Iași (3 days of contemporary music, visual arts and dance).
◦ Creation and presentation of a new RO–NO contemporary musical composition as the core co‑production.
◦ Online promotion campaign and dedicated web / social media presence for the initiative.
• A3 – Exchange of experience and skills:
◦ 4‑day cultural event and study visit in Norway (artistic performance and visits to cultural/educational institutions).
◦ 2‑day networking and know‑how transfer session in Romania on cultural management, funding and marketing.

Target groups and reach

• Direct beneficiaries (total approx. 558 people):
◦ 500 audience members from North‑East Romania attending festival activities.
◦ 4 Norwegian artists involved in festival and networking.
◦ 60 Romanian artists, specialists and cultural workers in festival activities.
◦ 30 Romanian and Norwegian artists/experts in the networking and mentoring event.
◦ 15 participants (including an 11‑member choir) in the Norway event.
◦ 5 project experts (RO + NO) improving bilateral project‑management skills.

Budget

Total budget / grant requested: 621.527,28 RON (124.907,51 EUR), 100% funded.
